MS-55202 is designed to get you up and running with Desired State Configuration (DSC). PowerShell DSC was introduced in version 4 and has been greatly expanded and enhanced in version 5. DSC goes hand-in-glove with implementation of DevOps the revolutionary methodology to join the development and operations teams. Now you can “declare” your desired environment and the DSC structure will “make it so” and keep it so!

Audience

This course is intended for SharePoint administrators who work in a Windows network environment. At least one year of experience managing SharePoint servers and using PowerShell is recommended.

Prerequisites

The students are expected to understand the basics of PowerShell either through attending the introductory PowerShell courses or having gained the experience working with PowerShell

In this module, we explain Desired State Configuration (DSC), the concepts needed to understand the basics of how it works and discuss the features added in the two latest versions.

Module 3: DSC Architecture
DSC utilizes DSC resources to determine whether or not the current state of the node matches the expected state, and those resources know how to change the current state to the expected state. Before we start to write configuration, files and utilize resources, we are going to explore the two models of management, review MOF file creation workflows, and look at different methods of configuring data.

Product Information

After you install SharePoint Server, applicable PowerShell cmdlets are available in the SharePoint Management Shell. You can manage most aspects of SharePoint Server in the SharePoint Management Shell. You can create new site collections, web applications, user accounts, service applications, proxies, and more. Commands that you type in the SharePoint Management Shell return SharePoint objects that are based on the Microsoft .NET Framework. You can apply these objects as input to subsequent commands or store the objects in local variables for later use.

With the SharePoint Management Shell, you do not have to register the snap-in that contains the cmdlets.
